Fouad Ben Abdelaziz, professor at NEOMA Business School in the Information Systems, Supply Chain & Decision Making department, has been invited by the American University of Beirut for a presentation: “From Decision to Optimization - The Art of Mathematical Modelling” on March 19th, 2019.

Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and Industrial Engineering and Management of the American University of Beirut invited Prof. Ben Abdelaziz as a leading researcher in multi-objective stochastic optimisation and Multi-attribute portfolio selection problems, with papers regularly published in outstanding journals.

The talk “From Decision to Optimization - The Art of Mathematical Modelling” addresses the modeling problem in quantitative approaches in general with a focus on the multi-criteria area. We discuss variety of situations where the researcher has to transform the real problem into a solvable –optimization- model. We present the different transformation strategies and the implications on problem solving and on the value of the obtained solution. We discuss the transformations of the multi-criteria problems by means of aggregation operators. We stress on the separability and the independence hypothesis related to alternatives and criteria. We will deal with uncertainty and ways to transform an uncertain problem into a deterministic optimization problem.
