Managers: the skills to develop in 2023
Published on 02/28/2023
Massive digitalisation, transition, world of uncertainty… businesses have seen these challenges imposed on them in a very short space of time. Such challenges require the development of new skills.
Like every year, 2023 has brought its share of new business challenges. This means that managers are the ones who must adapt and acquire new skills. The first is the ability to analyse and interpret data. Precisely that. And at a time when business is undergoing digitalisation, there is a shortage of data managers.
Data-driven organisations remain embryonic
This is what a 2022 survey of American companies by New Vantage Partners reveals. “Transforming into a data-driven organisation does not simply happen,” the report said. “It requires leadership. Data sources and volumes continue to proliferate at an ever increasing rate, challenging complex organisations to keep up. Although the number of organisations having appointed a Chief Data and Analytics Officer has risen from 12% to 73.7% over the past ten years, more than half of them feel that the role is still at an early stage. And only a quarter say they are data-driven. Barriers are more to do with organisation than technology This implies that a change in the way decisions are made and implemented is needed.
NEOMA has designed a complete portfolio of training programmes for these managers . Firstly, these include the Masters of Science in “Marketing and Data Analytics” and “Finance & Big Data”. But a further three new certifications were also launched in 2023. The Executive Education department and Jedha, a school specialising in the tech industry, have created three courses that can be covered by personal training accounts (CPF): the “Executive Marketing Digital and Data”, “Data Management” and “Cyber Risk Management” certificates. All three are aimed at marketing professionals, consultants, project managers, managers, etc. to provide them with the skills needed to face the challenges of data, whether related to organisation, security or corporate governance. Upcoming sessions are to be held at the end of May and then in October.
A world in transition that requires 360° vision
A further challenge for companies in the years to come is, of course, adapting to change – whether climatic, societal or geopolitical. With this in mind, the School has designed the Executive Leadership of Transformation certificate to teach how such transitions can be achieved. It is not only technical skills that are needed, soft skills are also required, in communication, for example, because ideas need to be translated into action, and managers need to be heard and teams to feel involved in a project.
The five-week training course enables managers to get to know themselves better and help them learn to make decisions, transform problems into solutions, remove barriers to change and draw on collective creativity. The first sessions are planned for the beginning of the 2023 academic year. Alumni benefit from a preferential 20% discount on all NEOMA Executive Education certificates.
