Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior / Sociology

Andreea Gorbatai is an Associate Professor in the Strategy & Entrepreneurship Department at NEOMA Business School. She received her masters in Sociology from Harvard University, and her PhD in Organizational Behaviour from Harvard Business School. Prior to arriving at NEOMA, Dr. Gorbatai held full-time appointments at the University of California at Berkeley, in the Haas School of Business, and in Vlerick Business School, in Belgium.

Her research examines how technological systems such as digital platforms, high-tech work environments, and maker communities shape organizational behaviour, access to opportunity, and socio-economic mobility. Using a combination of experimental, computational, and qualitative methods, Dr Gorbatai studies how identity, social bias, and institutional dynamics influence evaluation processes, entrepreneurial outcomes, and participation in emerging forms of organizing work and economic exchanges. More broadly, her research highlights how seemingly neutral technologies actively reproduce or reconfigure inequality, with the goal of informing more inclusive and responsible organizational practices.

Her work has been published in top management and sociology outlets such as Organization Science, Organisation Studies, American Journal of Sociology and Harvard Business Review. Dr. Gorbatai is a member of the Academy of Management and the European Group for Organisation Studies. She has work experience in executive education with high-profile global audiences in Europe and North America, as well as management consulting and economic consulting work experience on strategy, mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, and intellectual property projects.
